Reactions of keten. Part II. The thermodynamics of the gas-phase equilibrium: acetic acid + keten ? acetic anhydride

Abstract
The gas-phase equilibrium CH3·CO2H + CH2·CO (CH3·CO)2O has been studied over the temperature range 171–289°C, starting from both sides. The value of K is given by the equation log (K atm–1)= 4579/T– 6·738, ΔH°=–87·5 kJ mol–1, and ΔS°=–128·8 JK–1 mol–1. The results are compared with values calculated from the kinetic parameters of the forward and backward reactions.
