Urinary Excretion of 17-Ketosteroids by Normal Young Men During Starvation.

Abstract
Urinary excretion of total neutral 17-ketosteroids was detd. in 10 young [male][male] who, over a 6-mo. period of semi-starvation, had lost 24% of their original body wt. The reduction in output was 30% of the control values. In 12 young [male][male] who performed hard physical work during 4 days without food the urinary excretion of 17-ketosteroids was only 31% of the control value by the 4th day. The hard work was not responsible for the decrease because the subjects had been trained to the work before the start of the fast.
