Abstract
The methods and results of a recent characterisation study of New Zealand obsidians are reported. The investigation was designed with the intention that it should enable students of New Zealand archaeology to source artefacts from other archaeological assemblages. A reference configuration is defined using material from eighteen major sources in the North Jsland and its use in allocation of material from a site assemblage is demonstrated. Keywords
