Studies on bradykinin and bradykininogen in malaria

Abstract
Bradykinin was prepared from the blood of normal healthy rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) and monkeys infected with Plasmodium knowlesi malaria. The bradykinin preparations were pharmacologically identical to synthetic bradykinin. As the infection became severe plasma bradykininogen became depleted, indicating the possibility of increases in circulating bradykinin. The probable role of this increased release of bradykinin; into the plasma in acute malaria is discussed.
