Abstract
A meson-pair theory of nuclear forces is considered in which it is not necessary to use perturbation calculations. Former results in this theory are improved. New considerations are found necessary if the interaction between heavy particle and meson field is large enough to form bound meson states. For such large interactions, discrete stationary states of neutron and proton exist some of which have higher or lower charge and spin than the normal states. The energy required to excite the higher discrete states is of the order of the rest energy of the meson. Keywords
