An early Aranuian glacial advance at Cropp River, central Westland, New Zealand

Abstract
Two exposures of till at Cropp River, central Westland, record an early Aranuian glacial advance. Wood from near the base of one exposure is radiocarbon dated at 10,250 ± 150 years BP (NZ6576), The advance is younger than the Waiho Loop, a terminal moraine of Franz Josef Glacier, dated at 11,500 to 12,500 years BP. It may correlate with the Jagged Stream advance in Rakaia Valley, dated at >10,000 years BP, and the Wildman — 2 advance in Cameron Valley, dated at >9,520 years BP.
