Abstract
Many raw materials for the manufacturing of phytopharmaceuticals are still wildcrafted due to the inability to cultivate the species or a low commercial demand that will not economically support agricultural production of the plant as a crop. Wildcrafting, if unsupervised and unguided, can pose a threat to the sustainability of ecosystems and biodiversity. For discussion purposes, a proposed guideline, entitled Good Harvesting Practice (GHP), has been developed to meet the various demands of regulatory and other agencies dealing with registration of herbal medicinal products along with suggestions for sustainable use of natural resources.
