Abstract
Heparin, when introduced to lipemic animals clears visible lipemia. The following properties of the clearing factor have been described: it is dialyzable; it is found in the albumin fraction; 49oC inactivates it irreversibly; thrombin or thromboplastin do not affect it. The smallest effective concn. of heparin was about 0.5ug./cc. blood. Heparin fails to affect the lipase activity of serum either on injn. to normal or lipemic animals or when added to sera in vitro. The normal sera of 4 rabbits of 46 investigated, showed a spontaneous clearing effect, suggesting the existence of physiological heparinemia in these cases. Keywords
