Abstract
Temporal development of the Taylor vortices appearing in Couette flow between two coaxial cylinders is investigated by the use of a set of coupled-mode equations presented in I. Numerical time solutions of this set of equations and the corresponding variational equations are computed. The power spectral densities of the time series representing these numerical solutions are also calculated with the aid of an autoregressive model fitting. From these results it is shown that the motion is nonperiodic above a certain value of the rotating speed of the inner cylinder. Keywords
