Slow Neutron Resonances in Rhenium

Abstract

The BNL crystal spectrometer has been used to investigate the total cross section of rhenium for neutrons of energy 1 ev to 13 ev. Resonances were detected at 2.156, 4.416, 5.90, 7.2, 11.1, 11.9, and 12.8 ev. Two resonances were analyzed to obtain the parameters of the Breit-Wigner single-level formula. The radiation widths measured in this experiment are in agreement with the general trend in radiation widths near $A=185\mathrm{}$. A new resonance was observed at 11.9 ev.
