The Infra-Red Spectrum and Molecular Constants of C12O16 and C13O16

Abstract
The infra-red spectrum of carbon monoxide has been investigated with a 7200 line-per-inch grating. The fundamental bands of C12 O16 and C13 O16 and the overtone of C12 O16 were measured. The rotational structure has been analyzed by means of combination relations, and the following new values of the molecular constants have been obtained: ωe=2169.60 cm1, ωe=2121.33 cm1, xeωe=13.22 cm1, (xeωe)=12.64 cm1, Be=1.9238 cm1, Be=1.8465 cm1, α=0.0175 cm1, α=0.0169 cm1, Ie=14.548×1040 g cm2, Ie=15.157×1040 g cm2, re (average for both molecules) = 1.1291×108 cm. The primed constants refer to the isotopic molecule.
