Radar signal processing for angular resolution beyond the rayleigh limit

Abstract
The problem of angular resolution is formulated in a statistical decision theoretical context. A tutorial discussion of decision theory and its application to resolution is presented, and an explicit signal processing radar system is derived, the resolving properties of which approach an optimum. Computer simulation tests show that the system is capable of reliably resolving targets as close as a quarter of a 3 dB beam-width in the presence of noise and system errors.
