Abstract
6 strains of the "Type C" meningococcus of the French classification were studied in relation to the serological groups found in the U. S. during recent years. 5 of these 6 C strains correspond with those designated as Group II alpha. They are well agglutinated by a number of sera prepd. against II alpha strains; sera prepared by immunizing rabbits with these 5 C strains agglutinate most strains of II alpha. The 6th strain became too rough to be studied satisfactorily. In this study, the close relation between the French Type C and Group II alpha is shown clearly. The recommendation of the Subcommittee on the Nomenclature of the Neisseriaceae that Group II alpha be designated as Group C is justified by the evidence presented. Keywords
