An overview of a behavioural treatment for stuttering

Abstract
Stuttering can be successfully treated and treatment gains can be maintained in the long‐term. Replicated results are presented that verify the above claim. Whilst replication has mostly occurred within the one clinic, similar programmes overseas have also demonstrated remedial effects of behaviour therapy for stuttering. An overview of the behaviour therapy programme is presented in an intensive cognitive‐behavioural framework. Given the high incidence of stuttering disorder, it is hoped the therapy presented will be further utilized by relevant professions such as psychologists, speech pathologists and psychiatrists.
