This article maps the general distribution of vegetation in Russia, with special reference to soil and climate. The main regions are: tundra; coniferous forest (spruce or pine) on pod-sol ; oak forest, considered a field of battle between forest and steppe; grass steppe, with black soil; and desert, with light type of soil. Lists of other typical plant associates in each region are given.
