The Forecasting Significance of High-Level Winds in Sub-Arctic Regions*

Abstract

The following report is an attempt to illustrate some of the marked changes in wind direction and velocity that occur in the layer of atmosphere between 20,000 and 60,000 feet above the surface and to suggest how these changes may be used in forecasting the weather on the northern fringes of the belt of westerlies.
