Decay Widths of theφMeson from Algebra of Currents

Abstract

The decay width of the $\phi$ meson is considered by using the hypothesis of a partially conserved axialvector current and the equal-time commutation relations of the chiral $\mathrm{SU}\left(3\right)\mathrm{}\otimes \mathrm{SU}\left(3\right)\mathrm{}$ current algebra. We obtain $\Gamma (\phi \to K\overline{K})=3.9\mathrm{}$ MeV to be compared with the latest experimental value ${\Gamma }^{\mathrm{expt}}(\phi \to K\overline{K})=4.0\mathrm{}\pm 1.0$ MeV. A comparison with the results of the $\mathrm{SU}\left(3\right)\mathrm{}$ symmetry is made, and the electromagnetic decay modes of the $\phi$ are also discussed.
