The Accurate Measurement of the Breakdown and Current Voltage Characteristics of Liquid Dielectrics with Direct Potentials

Abstract

An arrangement is described which permits unusually accurate measurement of high voltage current characteristics and breakdown potentials of liquid dielectrics with direct current. Currents from 10⁻¹⁶ ampere to 10⁻³ ampere may be measured up to 40 kv. Protective devices are incorporated which prevent damage to the sample measured and to the instruments when breakdown occurs.
