Abstract
Part 1 is a description of a stream section near Otaki where spicules of marine sponges have been found in beds of the Otaki Formation (Hawera Series, Late Pleistocene). Part 2 deals with an ancient marine cliff, which can be traced for 8'5 miles between Otaki and Waikanae, and is tentatively considered to be part of the shoreline of western Wellington during the postglacial thermal maximum.
