Radiotherapy in Carcinoma of the Bladder: Possible Complications and Their Prevention

Abstract
The manage-ment of infiltrating carcinoma of the bladder is a difficult therapeutic problem and should be undertaken only in centers where a term of specialists with proper knowledge and training is available. The close co-operation between urologist, radiotherapist, and pathologist is indispensable. The treatment should be conducted with patients in the best general condition, with good urological function and freedom from obstruction and gross infection. The time and effort expended in correcting these factors are definitely repaid in the avoidance of reactions and improvement of results. Observations in a four-year experience at the University of Maryland Hospital are presented.
