Abstract
On UV (2537A) irradiation of cytidylic acid, an unstable product is formed. The UV absorption spectrum of this product lacks the characteristic 270-m[mu] band of cytosine nucleotides and has a new band at 240-mu. This product spontaneously reverts to cytidylic acid in a first-order process; the half-life of the product decreases by a factor of 50 between 0[degree] and 50[degree]C. The quantum yield for formation of this product is 0.017 mole/einstein.Keywords
