Histogenesis of Malignant Melanomas of the Uvea

Abstract
Each of 12 malignant melanomas arising in eyes with congenital ocular melanocytosis and one arising in a patient with systemic and ocular neurofibromatosis contained nevus cells. The vast majority of malignant melanomas of the uvea, whether they arise in eyes with ocular melanocytosis, neurofibromatosis, or in otherwise normal eyes, appear to develop from preexisting nevi.
