The Dichloroiodine(III) and Dibromoiodine(III) Cations in Sulfuric Acid

Abstract
The results of measurements of the conductivities and freezing points of solutions formed by adding chlorine or bromine to solutions of iodic acid and iodine (mole ratioI2/HIO3 = 2.0) in sulfuric acid are reported. The results provide evidence for the formation of the ions ICl2+ and IBr2+ in these solutions. Ultraviolet–visible spectra of the solutions are reported.
