Abstract
Alternate progressive movements of the legs occur after transection of the spinal cord in the thoracic region; posture as in mammals is controlled by centers in the brain. After removal of 1 or both cerebral hemispheres, abnormal extension of the legs was observed. This was even more evident after removing the mesence-phalon. This extension appears analogous to the accentuation of the postural reflex in mammals after decerebration.
