Abstract
Under conditions such that all activity is solely the expression of inherent vitality (absence of light and exogenous food) seedlings of C. melo follow very precisely the logistic (autocatalytic) curve in their growth. In this organism, therefore, the form of the growth curve is the same when growth is the expression either of inherent vitality (organic pattern in the sense of Whitehead) or of total vitality (as under normal conditions with exogenous food and light). Keywords
