Ketone Bodies in the Blood of Full Term Newborns, Premature and Dysmature Infants and Infants of Diabetic Mothers

Abstract
The level of ketone bodies in the blood rises 12 hr. after birth in premature and dysmature infants but not in infants from diabetic mothers. On about the 7th postnatal day levels decrease again, decreasing less in premature infants. The energy stores of various types of infants are thought to be responsible for these differences.
