Calcification of the Shoulders and Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
To the Editor: A prospective study was undertaken to estimate the frequency of chondrocalcinosis articularis and periarthritis of the shoulders in 200 diabetic and 100 nondiabetic patients, the latter seen at the outpatient clinic for internal medicine. In the protocol of our study, a clinical examination with special attention to the locomotor system was done together with the following laboratory investigations: erythrocyte sedimentation rate, hemoglobin, hematocrit, total white-cell and differential counts, urinalysis, blood urea and sugar, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, uric acid and x-ray films of the chest, shoulders, hands, pelvis, including the hips, knees and feet.
