Abstract
An important update from 2007 guidelines. This document provides guidance on diagnostic testing, updated antibiotic recommendations, added recommendation on procalcitonin, use of steroids, and elimination of the category healthcare-associated pneumonia (HCAP). The authors propose using local prevalence in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in deciding whether methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a potential pathogen.
