Polarized Raman Spectra of β-Quartz

Abstract
The Raman spectra of single crystal quartz were measured over the temperature range from a few degrees below the α‐β transition temperature (573°C) to 700°C. The polarization characteristics of the fundamental optical modes of the β phase were obtained, and the temperature dependent behavior of the bands in the region below 200 cm−1 was examined. A complete assignment of the Raman active optical modes of β‐quartz was determined from the polarization measurements.
