A note on the structural changes in the walls of pericycle cells initiating lateral root meristems in Zea mays

Abstract

Pericycle cells, in which lateral root meristems are initiated in corn, undergo extension and change in polarity, even though these cells initially have thick secondary walls. Structural changes in these walls were followed by EM correlated with bright-field, polarizing, and fluorescence microscopy.
