Abstract
Dislocations were generated and moved in MgO in a single short‐time (μs) stress event by dropping a steel ball onto freshly cleaved surfaces covered with either water, toluene, or dimethyl formamide. The results confirm that dislocation behavior in MgO is indeed environment sensitive under stressing conditions simulating those which occur in drilling. Keywords
