A STUDY OF THE GROSS ANATOMY OF THE ARTERIES SUPPLYING THE PROXIMAL PORTION OF THE FEMUR AND THE ACETABULUM

Abstract
The arteries in forty human adult hips were dissected. The blood supply of the femoral head in the adult was supplied by foveal and cervical arteries, but to a greater degree by capital branches of the medial femoral circumflex arteries which course along the neck to enter the femoral head at the acetabular rim. The following arteries were described and illustrated; lateral femoral circumflex, medial femoral circumflex, obturator, superior gluteal, inferior gluteal, first perforating, nutrient, foveal, posterior capital, anterior capital, and cervical arteries.
