Intramuse. injected carotene in oil soln. is poorly utilized as judged by growth resumption and survival time of vit. A-depleted rats. In contrast, intramusc. injected carotene in Tween 80 (poly-oxyalkylene derivative of sorbitan) soln. is as effectively utilized as the same amt. of carotene administered orally either in Tween 80 or oil soln.
