Migration of Endamoeba histolytica on Solid Media

Abstract
The authors attempted to separate E. histolytica from its accompanying bacteria in culture by migration of the amoebae on slants of solid transparent media under conditions of anaero-biosis with a small amount of CO2. They observed, through low and medium power magnification with a microscope set up horizontally, that the amoebae migrated up the slant beyond the visible growth of bacteria. They believe, however, that small numbers of bacteria accompanied the amoebae. Transplants from areas apparently free from bacteria produced multiplication of the amoebae together with bacteria.
