Abstract
When the Chew-Low theory for the interaction is used as a basis for studying the -nucleus interaction, it is required to fit the free scattering data well. In this respect many calculations so far done are unsatisfactory. We show that an excellent fit is obtained within the existing Chew-Low framework if the inelasticity together with recoil and the crossing term are taken into account, and we comment on a recent work by Dover et al.
