Effect of Dibenamine on Blood Pressure in Normotensive and Hypertensive Subjects

Abstract
Dibenamine hydrochloride, a new sympatholytic and adrenolytic drug, was administered intraven. in the dosage of 5 mg./kg. of body wt. to normotensive and hypertensive subjects. Reduction to normal or below normal levels in resting arteria blood pressure was observed only in benign or moderately advanced essential hypertension, but not in the malignant phase. Orthostatic hypotension occurred in both normotensive and hypertensive subjects. The depressor effect started at the end of the infusion and lasted 24-72 hrs. The role of the neurogenic factor was stressed and the usefulness of dibenamine in evaluating this factor was suggested.
