Abstract
The crystal-field-split levels of tetragonally sited ions in calcium fluoride crystals have been experimentally determined and the crystal field constants have been calculated as , , , , and . From center-of-gravity values of the experimental levels, and using a constant electrostatic depression of 1200 for all levels with energies over 10 000 , the multiplet-level solution has been determined as it exists in the crystal field. Parameters determined for that multiplet solution are , , , , and . New positions in crystal fields of the and multiplets have been established, with centers of gravity being approximately 20 830 for , 21 470 for , and 22 640 for .
