Abstract
The crystal-field-split levels of tetragonally sited Pr3+ ions in calcium fluoride crystals have been experimentally determined and the crystal field constants have been calculated as B02=500, B04=350, B06=600, B44=200, and B46=550. From center-of-gravity values of the experimental levels, and using a constant electrostatic depression of 1200 cm1 for all levels with energies over 10 000 cm1, the multiplet-level solution has been determined as it exists in the crystal field. Parameters determined for that multiplet solution are F0=13828, F2=324, F4=58.0, F6=6.01, and ζ=770. New positions in crystal fields of the P3 and I1 multiplets have been established, with centers of gravity being approximately 20 830 cm1 for P13, 21 470 cm1 for I61, and 22 640 cm1 for P23.
