Abstract
Grazing habits and related activities of lactating Holstein cows were recorded for two periods of 240 consecutive hours each with the following results obtained (per cow per 24 hour): standing time, 900 minutes; lying down time, 540 minutes; loafing time, 358 minutes; grazing time, 542 minutes; ruminating time, 518 minutes; defecations, 15; urinations, 9.4; drinks, 3.9. Grazing time was divided approximately equal between the A.M. - P.M. and P.M. -A.M. milkings; however, high environmental temperatures were observed to increase night grazing. Results are discussed from the standpoint of pasture management. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
