Experiments on the biogenesis of vitamin B1

Abstract
Yeast fermentation of dl-[alpha]-amino-[beta]-(4-methylthiazole-5)-propionic acid leads to 4-methyl-5-([beta]-hydroxyethyl)-thiazole and the d( [long dash])-form of the amino-acid. The initial stages of a synthesis of the a-aminopropionic acid analogous to aneurin are described.
