The Effect of Salinity on the Membrane Potential of Sunflower Roots

Abstract

The effect of NaCl and Na₂SO₄ on the electrical potential difference (PD) across the membrane in the outer cortical cells of the root of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) has been investigated. The effect on the PD of a range of concentrations of these salts given as a shock treatment was compared with the long-term effect where plants were grown in a range of salinities for 2 weeks.
