Near-Resonant Vibrational Energy Transfer inN2-CO2Mixtures

Abstract
Recent experiments indicate that the N2-CO2 near-resonant vibration-transfer cross section has a strong negative temperature dependence for temperatures below about 1000°K, in contrast to the behavior predicted by the theory of Schwartz, Slawsky, and Herzfeld. It is shown that this anomalous behavior is due to the long-range dipole-quadrupole interaction between the molecu
