PHASE DIAGRAMS AND SOLUTION PROPERTIES OF ETHOXYLATED CHOLESTEROLS

Abstract
Solubility and phase behaviour of ethoxylated cholesterol derivatives, with varying ethoxylene chain length (4, 8, 10, 13, 35, and 50 ethoxy units) have been investigated. The compounds form liquid crystalline phases analogous to the more common alkyl or alkylarylderlvatives. The clouding behaviour, with a higher cloudpoint for more hydrophilic compounds and a decreasing cloudpoint when adding electrolyte to the system, was also analogous to these more common surfactants.
