Note on the Interpretation of Wood's Iodine Resonance Spectrum

Abstract
The paper describes a re-analysis of the resonance series described by Mecke, using the formulas developed by Kratzer and Sudholt. The series are correlated with the absorption bands near the exciting mercury line. The recomputed values of the moment of inertia for the normal state (n=0) and for the excited electronic level (n=26 to 29) are 8.1×1038 gm. cm2 and 12.5×1038 gm. cm2 respectively. The origin of these bands is very close to the head, the value of m for the head being 1.81.
