Abstract
25 isolates of Hendersonula toruloidea from human infections were found to exist mainly in 2 cultural types, characterised by differences in growth rate, abundance of aerial mycelium and of arthrospores. The fast growing type occurred mainly in patients from Jamaica whilst most of the slow growing type were in patients of Indian and Pakistani origin. The isolates showed an optimum growth temperature of 30–35°C. and there was no evidence of requirements for external vitamins. The penetration of hair and nail tissue in vitro was achieved by boring hyphae and fronds. Attempts at experimental infections of guinea-pigs were unsuccessful. 25 aus menschlichen infektiösen Läsionen gezüchtete H. toruloidea-Stämme bildeten im wesentlichen 2 Kulturtypen. Sie unterschieden sich in Wachstum, Menge des Luftmangels und durch Arthrosporen. Der schnell wachsende Typ zeigte sich vor allem bei Patienten aus Jamaika, während sich die meisten Kulturen des langsam wachsenden Typs bei Patienten in Indien und Pakistan finden ließen. Die Kulturen wiesen eine optimale Wachstumtemperatur zwischen 30–35 °C auf. Ein Hinweis auf erforderliche Zusätze von Vitaminen ergab sich nicht. Das Eindringen in das Haar und in Nagelgewebe in vitro erfolgte durch Hyphen einzeln und fächerartig. Versuche, experimentell Meerschweinchen zu infizieren, mißlangen.Keywords
