EOSINOPHIL RESPONSE TO STRESS IN ASCORBIC ACID PRETREATED MICE

Abstract
Epinephrine failed to elicit the eosinopenia of stress in ascorbic acid-pretreated male albino mice but succeeded in eliciting a marked eosinopenia in saline-pretreated mice. Corticotropin stimulation to both saline-pre-treated and ascorbic acid-pretreated mice induced decreases in the eosinophil levels. Ascorbic acid apparently blocks the activation of the pituitary-adrenal axis at a pre-pituitary, or at a pituitary level.
