Further Studies on Glucose Catabolism in the Early Phases of Germination ofPhaseolus mungoSeeds

Abstract
In the early stage of germination of Phaseolus mungo seeds, oxygen uptake was little inhibited by iodoacetate and sodium fluoride, yet carbon dioxide output was strongly inhibited. The inhibitors also decreased alcohol formation severely in this stage. It was shown that NaF attacked its target (enolase) and curtailed the glycolytic activity. On the basis of these results, a mechanism for the insensitivity of oxygen uptake is proposed.
