Abstract
Consideration was given to the metabolic patterns of the heart; the basic regulation and concepts of control of coronary flow including the separation of the influence on coronary flow of intravascular factors from the mechanical effects of ventricular systole; the efficiency of the left ventricle and the influence of the "resting" metabolism of the heart upon it; the significance of the level of the coronary sinus O2 saturation; the determination of the state of performance of the heart; the pattern of response of the human and dog heart to a variety of physiologic and pathologic stresses; the physiologic basis for surgical and other procedures in the treatment of coronary artery disease. Keywords
