Abstract
This article reviews just one aspect of respiratory mechanics and even within the limits implied by the title does not attempt to be comprehensive. Instead, specific topics are taken up in detail. Rohrer''s method of analysis is the basis for most measurements of respiratory mechanics. It is presented here in an introductory section in order to set it forth in one place along with its assumptions and limitations. A large share of the remainder deals with the elastic behavior of lungs and the contribution of surface phenomena to it.
