Abstract
The effect of localized lattice vibrations on the librational and tunneling frequencies of diatomic polar impurities trapped in alkali halide matrices has been worked out. It is shown that Devonshire energy‐level scheme corrected for the lattice‐vibrational effects gives a good account of the librational and tunneling levels of the impurity. Keywords
