Spin and Parity of the 4.841-MeV Level ofPb208

Abstract

A level at 4.841 MeV in ${}_{}{}^{208}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Pb}$ previously claimed to be $1^{+}$ is shown to be $1^{-}$ by its large yield in inelastic $\alpha$-particle scattering from ${}_{}{}^{208}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Pb}$.
